Spy Kids - S.K.S. One

Rächer Records - EP -

623_spy_kids.jpgAfter the split EP with their friends Anti Clockwise come Spy Kids with next EP called S.K.S. One. On Ep are four songs called S.K.S. (which is their well known song which isn´t recorded on previous albums but they had it on their myspace and their played it on their gigs), then cover Chip on your Shoulder from Cock Sparrer, Freund oder Feind and Tattoo Song. In Spy Kids plays two girls – singer Anika (which you may know from split with Anti Clockwise) and bass player Zdenka who comes from Czech Republic, but you surely know all that. This is their third EP. So when it come sto the songs - S.K.S. (Spy Kids Skinheads) is anthem of the band and it is about the band attitude to all left and right wing activists. Chip on your Shoulder is not necessary to introduce. Freund oder Feind is classic one about so called friends and the last one Tattoo Song is about how you want more and more after the visiting the studio. Band is playing nice oi/streetpunk with some small solos (like in S.K.S., with nice riff at the end which reminds me Chaos from 4 Skins) and great fact is also changing of the girl in vocals. Freund oder Feind is most straightforward song from the EP and Tattoo Song is great singalon – immer mehr, immer mehr. EP is limited to 206 copies (50 copies are with Cock Sparrer rip off cover). Inside is paper with lyrics and band photo on the background. Photo is also on the backside of the cover. Straightforward and sincerity this is what you receive from Spy Kids so buy it or come and listen to them in September when they hit CZ again!

REVIEWS SPY KIDS/ANTI CLOCKWISE SPLIT 7"

Spy Kids / Anti Clockwise - No Fuss No Mess Just Pride And Passion Volume II Pride And Passion

“No Fuss  No Mess Just Pride And Passion” volume 2 is a split EP between Spy Kids and Anti Clockwise. While volume 1 was limited to 78 (!) copies and only sold with the Bomberpilot fanzine volume 2 has a total being pressed of 185 copies and is a little easier to get.

But just because this piece of wax is a little easier to get doesn’t make this release less interesting. Side A kicks off with the Spy Kids from Weimar, Germany and present their new line-up for the first time on a recording with female vocals from Anika, but still the great tunes you would expect from a German Oi! / Streetpunk. Besides their own song “You Make Me Sick” Spy Kids also included the Stars & Stripes classic “Shaved For Battle” to their contribution for this EP and I’m loving every second of this side!

When you flip the 7” over you get Anti Clockwise from Magdeburg which is also in Germany. They have recorded two of their own songs for this EP which are 100% in German language as well. I personally don’t mind the native tongue at all with bands such as Böhse Onkelz and Vogelfrei being some of my all-time favorite bands. Anti Clockwise remind me of early Onkelz from time to time with a whole lot of Rabauken in the mix and deliver a very good side as well!

If you can order this EP somewhere… anywhere… get it!

Thanx to American Oi!

Spy Kids/Anti Clockwise - Pride and Passion Vol.

Pride and Passion Records - EP -

570_spy_aclc.jpgThis is split EP of two German bands which are well known here in CZ – Spy Kids from Weimar (with their split with Normals?!) and Anti Clockwise from Magdeburg (they played on Streetkids 2012). With both bands you may find an interview here on BB. Spy Kids have some line up changes – on vocals is now girl named Anika. Anti Clockwise are still playing in three pieces. Each band has there two songs. Spy Kids has there You Make Me Sick and Shaved for Battle from Stars and Stripes. Anti Clockwise has songs Generation Null bock and Oi! Musik. Spy Kids guiter has grea garage feeling but it is also great in solos. Great is changing of female vocals in refrains. Lyrics are about the fact that we didn´t come from the high class and we have to stay on our own feet even the other above call us scum. Shaved for Battle is well known song which need no introducing. Anti Clockwise has both songs in German language but under the lyrics are a few words about the song (but again in German). Their first song is about the lost of youn people´s identity and modern trends like TV, internet and mainstream. Second one is simple song about workers life who is going to listen Oi! music after he came home from work when other people listen just to radio bullshit. Their music is grat skinhead rock´n´roll (even they are playing just in three) in middle rhythm. Spy Kids music is faster on this EP. Inside are lyrics and band photos. Ep is limited to 160 copies. Good piece.

Reviews SPY KIDS - "The End of the first Decade..."

Spy Kids - The End of the First Decade

Skinhead Beat Records - CD - 19:13

381_spykids.jpgCD which maps the end of the first decade of this Oi! band from Weimar which you may know from split CD/LP with Czech punkrock band Normals!?. This CD is released also because singer Schmotti is leaving the band. On Cd you can find 6 songs which are previously unreleased (except Der Rächer which was on their first EP) except some which were on their myspace profile. It is songs like Way of Life, Der Rächer, Spy Kids Oi!, Du bist es, Nicht versteh´n and Kopf hoch. The band is playing nice Oi! music with punk rock touch in German language (except the opening of one song when you can hear Czech countdown from Zdenka who comes from our country and Spy Kids Oi! is mixed with English). CD is opened by hit Way of Life about being a skinhead forever with cool guitar solo. Other songs are about revenge (Der Rächer), love which causes you joy but also pain (Du bist es, which is the best song from album i think), society standards and laws which tight your hands (Nicht versteh´n) or about pride (Kopf hoch). The band is working mainly with singalong refrains which are spiced up with female vocal and also with light guitar solos. CD is limited to 500 copies (100 are in digipack, which I have) and handnumbered. Graphically it is collage from poster from many gigs and band photos from the live shows, lyrics and thankslist. Nice CD from the band which has bindings to the Czech scene and I hope that they will play at least ten more years with the new singer and that they will released more songs (not just 14 during 10 years). SPY KIDS 'The end of the first decade' MCD

My first introduction to this German Oi! band, even though they already have some (vinyl) releases under their belts. This release celebrates the band's first 10 years in which they released a 'whopping' 14 songs, this album included! Not the most prolific band as far as releases goes, but they have played numerous gigs and the experience really shines through in their music: powerful, uptempo Oi! with catchy singalong melodies. A pleasant surprise. Limited edition of 500 copies, 400 regular CD's and a digipack version limited to a 100 copies. This is the digipack version. [Pure Impact Records]

Reviews SPY KIDS/ NORMALS?! - Split 10inch/CD

SPY KIDS - NORMALS? HERE ARE THE SPY KIDS!

Spy Kids/Normals?! „MMX“ Split

Meik

Brand new German label Warboots Rds has just debuted with this excellent split featuring Spy Kids (Germany) and Normals?! (Czech Republic), bands that had shared the stage on their respective countries already. The vinyl format is a 500 copies limited edition and has an insert with photos and lyrics. On this album Spy Kids presents a much more aligned and mature sound if compared to their 7" "Weimar" (2007). Spy Kids evolved from a traditional Oi! to a more skinhead rock music, with nice riffs and guitar solos. Among the 4 songs, highlights to the mighty "Keine Zeit" and "Der Arbeitsegoist". By the way, would be interesting if the girl who plays bass guitar would have a more active role singing some songs (why not?). Regarding the Normals?!, I don't know their previous releases, but I really liked this band from Prag, who plays a massive, fast and no-frills streetpunk, with aggressive and strong vocals. My favourite songs are "Kotva a Kriz" and "Bez války se neumirá", songs that are furious and full of energy. Notice that both bands sing on their native languages, which makes their music to sound even more aggressive. Surely a great release by Warboots Rds., whose vinyl label reminds that classic R-O-R logo.

3. Skinhead Rebell

Spy Kids/ Normals?! - s/t

Warboots Records - LP -

119_spykidsnormals.jpgAfter the gig on 6th January 2010 when both bands played together here in CZ, come news that the bands are going to record the split album. I was pleased more when I hear the fact that will be also out on 10 inch vinyl limited to 500 pieces. Every band has 4 songs on LP and every band also sings in their mother tongue. So I start with Normals?! Band has another guitarist now and it has more dense sound than first CD. They have songs called Kotva a Kříž (Anchor and the Cross) which is dignified open song with melodic tunes, second is called Dluhy (Debts) and it is faster and you will know after the hearing that having debts is punk. Another thing Bez války se neumírá (There´s no Dying without War) and it is slower song in style of Zona A and it is about that even the things are bad, somewhere are really worse and last one is called Falešnej kamarád (False Friend). Band has there also English version of the lyrics so all can read what they are singing about. Spy Kids has only one guitar and you can hear it from the sound. First song is called Keine Zeit (No Time) and it is about how you should forget the problems from your work and have a nice evening with the friends you like, second is called Der Arbeitsegoist (Workaholic maybe...) and it is about the fact that if you work too much your family will hate you and you will hear good guitar solos here. Third is Skinhead Rebell and it is directly about that what you are thinking that it is about. The last one and also best one for me is called Supervision and it compares the Big Borther of nowadays (DNA, tapping, etc...) and methods of Stasi which was German secret police during communism. In Spy Kids plays girl and you will hear her voice in singalong refrains. Their lyrics are only in German so you should do your best to understand them. LP is possible to buy for 8 € which is good prize and there aren´t so many copies left and I thon that CD will not be more expensive. Cover is nice, you can see coat of arms of Prague and Weimar on it plus paper with lyrics, photos and contact on the bands inside. Good debut of Warboots Records and nice work from both bands.
